Greetings, fellow Hubbers, and thank you for having me. My name is Ian Clark, from Edinburgh.
I spent a decade in Japan and still speak and read the language, although I am still searching for a good sushi restaurant here in Edinburgh. My interest in Japan is multi-faceted, from language, literature and culture to temples, food and martial arts. My only practical experience of the latter is a spot of aikido which I am planning to take up again.
I am fascinated by foreign cultures and languages. I am bilingual in English and Japanese, but my French and German (not to mention Latin and Ancient Greek)need brushing up. School days are now a distant memory! I am currently learning Mandarin and Russian through self-study.
I am also a big fan of most kinds of sports, with my top two spectator sports being rugby and American Football. I used to play both. Nowadays, apart from running, swimming and the gym, you are likely to find me at the top of a mountain. The pic is my father and I atop Ben Nevis. Yes, I'm the one in the red.
Not really sure what to expect from Hubbers. I came across it by accident today while looking at the profile of a friend of mine on Facebook. Martyn Shuttleworth is a very good friend of mine from university days. He currently lives in Sparti (Sparta), Greece, and it was while reading his Greek hubs that I decided to have a go myself.
Looking forward to the journey!
